The alpine skier Núria Pau said goodbye to competitive skiing this past weekend in a celebratory event held in her hometown, Ribes de Freser. The Catalan skier, who a few weeks ago announced her retirement from professional skiing, wanted to end her sports career surrounded by those who made her Olympic dream possible.

The event, organized thanks to the Ribes de Freser Town Council, took place on Friday, June 10, in Ribes de Freser’s Market Square. Mònica Sanjaume, the mayor of Ribes de Freser, opened the event by highlighting Núria’s perseverance and dedication and thanked her for bringing international recognition to Ribes de Freser, as well as for her support of the valley, skiing, and Olympic sports.

Next, David Samper, president of the Catalan Winter Sports Federation, spoke about how important Núria Pau has been to Catalan skiing and wished her the best of luck in her new chapter.

Cristian Masdeu, Núria Pau’s first coach, current technical director of La Molina Club d’Esports, and co-founder of the private team Fast-Holaluz, recalled how Núria, even from a very young age, already displayed the values of determination and effort that have led her to become an Olympic skier.

Finally, Núria Pau reviewed her sports career, expressing gratitude for all the support she has always received from the people of Ribes, her family, friends, sponsors, and all those who have accompanied her on a journey filled with success and dedication.
