Pura Vall learns from the Basque Country’s sustainable and active tourism initiatives

Learning from other destinations, sharing experiences and discovering new ways of working are essential to keep evolving in the tourism sector. With this in mind, Pura Vall took part in a knowledge-sharing trip to the Basque Country, organised by the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board. The initiative provided an opportunity to discover projects and benchmark models in the fields of sustainable and nature-based tourism.
During the trip, we learned more about the Basque Country’s Code of Ethics for Tourism, promoted by Basquetour, the Basque Tourism Agency. This initiative encourages a responsible and sustainable tourism model, based on the voluntary commitment of businesses and destinations to a shared set of principles.
The code focuses on issues such as environmental sustainability, equality and inclusion, respect for local identity and culture, heritage preservation and professional excellence. It also highlights the importance of collaboration between public authorities, businesses, visitors and local communities in moving towards a tourism model that creates value for the territory and the people who live there.
The programme also offered insights into initiatives related to active tourism and nature-based experiences, such as the Feel the Adventure project in Gorbeia, presented by Andoni, a local guide. It is an example of how knowledge of the local environment and the guidance of local professionals can enrich tourism experiences.
For Pura Vall, taking part in these kinds of events is an opportunity to exchange knowledge, discover good practices and bring new perspectives into the way we work.
We remain committed to nature-based and active tourism that showcases the value of the territory, respects the environment and offers high-quality experiences. Learning from other destinations also helps us continue to develop the Ripollès and the Pyrenees as tourism destinations.
